Privacy Guidelines: Privacy Management Framework

Privacy Guidelines: Privacy Management Framework

As discussed in our previous article, some businesses are required by law to have an established privacy policy outlining the ways in which personal and sensitive information is collected and used.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner has released a document that provides guidelines for good practice and compliance with privacy laws: the Privacy Management Framework.

The framework highlights four key steps to good compliance: Embed, Establish, Evaluate and Enhance.

  • Step 1:  Embed a culture of privacy that enables compliance
  • Step 2: Establish robust and effective privacy practices, procedures and systems
  • Step 3: Evaluate your current privacy practices, procedures and systems to ensure continued effectiveness
  • Step 4: Enhance your response to privacy issues
