New Long Service Leave laws in Victoria

Recruitment can be a long and challenging process, so encouraging loyal employees can be a great way to avoid the difficulties that come with staffing.  With this in mind, make sure you are aware of the new long service leave laws!

The Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic) (Act) came into effect on 1 November 2018, replacing its 1992 predecessor.  The key change being made in this Act is that employees in Victoria will be entitled to long service leave after 7 years of continuous employment as opposed to the previous 10 year period.  A casual, seasonal and fixed term employee may be entitled to Long Service Leave if their employment satisfies the requirements of “continuous employment”.
