Changes to food labelling requirements

Changes to food labelling requirements

You may have noticed the new food labelling ads recently as the ACCC now has power to enforce new food labelling laws regarding the country of origin of food products.

The new system, which came into effect 1st July 2016, includes a bar chart with a percentage indicating how much of the product is made, produced, grown or packaged in Australia.  Australian-made products will include the ‘Australian Made’ kangaroo logo.

Imported food will be required to have its country of origin specified on a clearly defined box, although the requirements will vary depending on the type of food and what part of the process (if any) was undertaken within Australia.
